NPAT: VNA (VoIP Network Assessment)

NPAT: VNA (VoIP Network Assessment)

The VNA (VoIP Network Assessment) is meant to be a comprehensive test to study network readiness for Voice over IP services. It includes metrics like Upstream / Downstream Jitter, Packet Loss, MOS scores. It also includes Upload / Download Capacity, SIP ALG Detection, and Max concurrent VoIP calls supported by your internet connection.

The VNA test will simulate a VoIP call by crafting UDP RTP packets and sending them to and from the client's browser plugin. It uses simulated G.711u packets to create flows with a bit rate of 87.2Kbps. Flows are added incrementally until 1 percent packet loss is detected. At that point, the test will reduce the number of flows to the amount prior to detecting packet loss to double-check it can sustain less than 1 percent packet loss at that rate. After this second check the test will end and results will be displayed.

This is a more accurate measurement of the overall capacity of an internet connection but not the full assessment of a round trip. Please note the VNA test may take 3-4 minutes to complete.
